Project Detail

New lights, new life.

Central Plaza One is a commercial office building at 345 Queen Street, in the Brisbane central business district. The building is owned by Industry Superannuation Property Trust (ISPT), who have invested in refurbishing the lobby to create an outstanding arrival for customers and visitors.

In terms of lighting upgrades, the project was challenged by the height of the lobby ceiling (18 metres/5 levels high) which made them difficult & expensive to access for cleaning & maintenance. Previous owners had resorted to turning the lights off altogether to meet NABER’s rating targets.

Part of Haron Robson’s (lighting designer) brief was to create enough light in the foyer to make the surfaces appear bright. The solution consisted of a custom made addressable LED edge lit panel lighting system providing static, adaptable and dynamic lighting effects (over 2000 settings) that respond to daylight conditions and reduce energy consumption.

Automated was appointed by Force Electrical and Stowe to supply and program the following equipment:

Ground Floor

  • 10 x DDBC300-DALI
  • 1 x DDBC120-DALI
  • 1 x Antumbra Display
  • 1 x Envision Gateway

Building crown (dome atop the building)

  • 4 x DDNG485
  • 1 x Antumbra Display

In terms of energy efficiency, the project aimed to replace a system which consumed nearly 628MWhrs per year when fully operational with a new system that should consume just 70MWhrs.

The installed equipment should last in excess of 10 years with little maintenance and up to 20 years versus the old fluorescent installation requiring complete re-lamping every second year. This LED solution reduced waste and toxins generated by the re-lamping process.

ISPT and their tenants have been thrilled with the outcome of the project, especially with  the way the new lighting  enhances the architectural beauty of the building and  the finishes across the lobby upgrade project.
